Work with me

Introduction - Meet Rhonda Skallan

Sep 14, 2023

Welcome! Nice to meet you!

For those of you who don’t know me, I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, provide some information on my background and education, and really detail how I came to be where I am today.

My Roots
From my humble beginnings in the Smoky Mountains where I sold nightcrawlers, to leading billion-dollar projects in the corporate world, my story has been one of grit, determination, and breaking boundaries. My path to where I am today isn’t just about climbing the professional ladder, it’s about shattering ceilings in male-dominated industries with resilience, confidence, and a little bit of badass savvy.

My Education
I attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VA Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Family and Child Development with an emphasis on Administration. Following that, I pursued a Master of Science in Project Management from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. During my time there, I dedicated myself to a thesis on the "Respiratory Protection Program, Implementing a New Process,” which was published in the same year.

Starting in 2009, certifications became my next pursuit. I have added to my education repertoire with training and certifications in TED (The Empowerment Dynamic), Enneagram, DISC, Emergenetics, Navigational Conversations, Newfield Ontological Coaching, ICF (International Coaching Federation), Enhancing Safety Through Design, Dare to Lead, and more.

Professionally, I'm proud to be affiliated with Women in Construction (WIC), the American General Contractors (AGC) Association, and the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) as both a member and a conference speaker. I've also been actively involved with the Denver Leadership Foundation through the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce as an alumnus of several leadership programs.

My Experience
Along my professional journey, I have worked in health care, entertainment, construction, technology, and non-profit organizations. I established the first-ever child care center for the Denver Athletic Club and was the first project manager to come in under budget for the globally recognized Cherry Creek Arts Festival. I spent 17 years with the Children’s Hospital of Colorado as director of planning, design, construction, and real estate, overseeing the successful growth and expansion of 3.8M sqft. I handled half a billion dollars of project execution, directed multiple teams from concept to completion, and oversaw the successful growth and expansion of 3.8 million square feet of healthcare construction. After several years of consulting, I became part of Meta as a Program Manager for Design, Engineering, and Construction, directed a $6B project portfolio, and managed the end-to-end people strategy for the team of 700 internal resources and thousands of external partner resources. I drove the Women in Construction program, creating a cohesive global program that touched as many as 20,000 people annually.  Throughout my career journey, I stretched into more than just projects and ignited my people side by coaching starting in 2009, culminating in several certifications including Certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) in 2019.

My Inspiration
Outside of the office, I have a number of varied interests. I’m a nationally recognized speaker and the passion behind, “Construction with a Touch of Grace,” advocating for the rightful place of women in industries where our numbers might be few, but our impact is mighty. I love to travel with my husband, garden, spoil our felines, and spend time with extended family.  Theater and photography captivate my brain and creativity, and my appetite for knowledge continues to grow as I read more than 70 books annually.

My Mission
Why did I choose to be a guide for women in power industries? I love people. Throughout my journey, I’ve seen too many talented women at the intersection of ambition and doubt. My mission is clear - uplift every woman, ensuring she moves forward in her chosen field with success, confidence, and empowerment.

From boardroom discussions to leading construction crews, I’ve learned one thing - in power industries, women aren’t just playing the game, they’re designing the board. And I’m here to help you level up your journey, amplify your voice, and lead with confidence - whether you’re wearing heels or steel-toed boots.

I’m not too shy to claim it. I’m a badass. And I want you to feel that exact same confidence with your journey. Ready to redefine success together?
